If you are experiencing a painful toothache or some other dental emergency, you need help fast. Whether it’s a lost filling, cracked teeth, or a tooth that’s fallen out, there are many dental issues that require immediate attention. At Sensational Smiles, we are passionate about helping patients with emergency dental services because we understand that these situations seem to always occur at some of the most inopportune times. If you need emergency dental care, we encourage you to contact us quickly and we’ll do our best to see you as soon as possible, often the same day.
No one wants to suffer through the pain of a dental emergency, whether yours is the result of sudden injury, or an existing problem that made a sharp turn for the worse, we want to help eliminate discomfort. While we can’t promise that we will get you in immediately, we do leave openings every day for emergency care and will offer you the soonest available appointment. We’re open six days a week, so that we can accommodate our patients’ needs.
In the meantime, here’s some information that can help you determine if your problem is truly a dental emergency and what you can do while you are waiting to be seen by the dentist.
Toothache – several different things can cause a toothache. In some cases, food debris can be stuck between teeth, causing pain. Try flossing and rinsing with warm water. A cold compress on the cheek or mouth can help if the gum is inflamed.
Cracked Teeth ¬– When a tooth gets cracked or chipped it’s important to rinse the area with warm water and try to save pieces of the tooth if possible. Gauze can be used to control any bleeding that has occurred.
Knocked-out Tooth – When a tooth is knocked out, minutes count, so make sure to call our office as quickly as possible. Having the tooth placed by a dentist within hour yields the greatest chance of saving it. At home, try rinsing the tooth off with water but be careful not to touch the root or any fragments of tissue. If you can, try to place the tooth back in the socket and be careful not to swallow it. If the tooth will not go back into the socket, put it in a glass of milk or water with a little bit of salt.
Lost filling – Lost fillings can be sensitive and painful. Try purchasing some over the counter dental cement to fill in the cavity until a dentist can see you. Avoid any foods or liquids containing sugar.
Broken jaw – An injury that potentially breaks the jaw is very serious and usually causes pain, swelling or bruising on the face. Try applying a cold compress for swelling and then stabilize the jaw with a bandage wrapped from the jaw to the top of the head. Head to the nearest emergency room.
