DO INVISALIGN BRACES REALLY FIX GAPS AND MISALIGNMENT FOR WALLINGTON AREA RESIDENTS?
By Dr. Suril Amin
Wallington area patients who are unhappy with their smile’s alignment may shy away from speaking to their dentist because they believe traditional braces are the only way to address this issue. However, thanks to advances in dentistry, patients can now address these issues with an alternative known as Invisalign.
WHAT IS INVISALIGN?
The best way to describe Invisalign is as a tray therapy for aligning the teeth. Invisalign uses transparent plastic aligners that patients wear over the dental arch day and night to gently move the teeth into their desired alignment. Dr. Suril Amin and his team educate patients on the advantages of Invisalign, which include:
- Discreet treatment
- Easy care
- Better periodontal health
Invisalign is simple to use, and can provide patients with the same results they would achieve using traditional metal bracket and wire braces. Invisalign is difficult to discern from the natural teeth, ensuring that treatment is unnoticeable. This is the primary reason patients choose Invisalign treatment – to avoid having metal brackets and wires covering their smile for months on end while undergoing treatment.
DO INVISALIGN BRACES FIX GAPS?
Invisalign braces can fix gaps between teeth, as well as misalignment of the dental arch and bite. Gaps between teeth can also be addressed with alternative solutions available at Sensational Smiles including porcelain veneers and composite resin bonding.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR INVISALIGN?
The best candidates for treatment with Invisalign are patients who have mild to moderate misalignment. More severe cases of misalignment may be better suited for conventional orthodontics, and our team can provide a referral to an orthodontist for further evaluation. However, patients who are considered appropriate candidates for treatment can then discuss with Dr. Suril Amin the process to better understand how Invisalign works.
HOW DOES INVISALIGN ADDRESS MISALIGNMENT?
The process starts with an evaluation and consultation appointment, during which patients find out if they can move forward with this treatment. Then, digital impressions are completed of the patient’s current tooth alignment. These impressions are sent to the Invisalign laboratories where a series of trays are fabricated. The series start with the patient’s current alignment and then progress through each tray. The trays are worn for two weeks before moving to the next one. As this happens, the teeth are gently pushed into proper alignment. However, this method of orthodontia does require patients to be compliant with their treatment. When patients do not follow the directions given by their dentist, they may experience delays in their treatment and additional costs to fabricate more trays. We encourage patients to be serious and committed to their Invisalign therapy to see the results they desire.
WHAT IS DONE WHEN ALIGNMENT IS REACHED?
Many patients continue to wear their final Invisalign aligner tray at night as a retainer to maintain the results. This is recommended to keep shifting from occurring and affecting the results that have been attained. Patients love the ability to easily protect their new smile without having to deal with additional appliances in the mouth.
ARE INVISALIGN BRACES PAINFUL?
The trays are extremely comfortable for patients to wear. When patients switch to the newer tray, they may notice some soreness, but this is because the teeth are being repositioned with the aligner tray. This is often not very bothersome for patients, but patients can also take over-the-counter pain medication if they feel uncomfortable. The trays used in Invisalign are extremely comfortable to wear compared to traditional braces, as there are no wires or brackets to irritate the soft tissues of the mouth.
